Create Hiding Options for Kitty

If you have a skittish cat who spends most of her life under the bed, the problem may be that she doesn't have choices for hiding places. Being under the bed is safe because the cat remains hidden and has plenty of escape options if someone peeks under there in an attempt to extract her. Create other hiding place options by having beds in other parts of the house so kitty feels hidden. Place the beds in elevated areas. Being able to walk through a room while staying "invisible" is important to a scaredy cat. Slide sofas and chairs out from against the wall so the cat can walk behind them. Finally, don't attempt to hold her when she ventures from her hiding place. Let her feel that she has control.

Chilean Patagonia

With so many peaks, valleys, fjords, and glaciers, Chilean Patagonia is a paradise for climbers and hikers. Dozens of national parks are found around the region, most accessible from the main road, the Carretera Austral. Park trails and those in the government-run Ruta Patrimonial series (www.bienes.gob.cl/terra/rutas.htm) are well-marked and well-maintained; others are so remote that bushwhacking, river crossings, and orienteering through unmapped valleys are required.

This is my favorite coffee cup, for obvious reasons. On a recent trip to visit my wife, who was at the University of Minnesota Medical Center for treatment, the last day she was there my son and I went to the Student Union and he bought this mug for me. He is planning to attend the U sometime after graduation in 2014.

Bean Bag Chairs

These are the little boys' Bean Bag chairs we just bought. Like a new toy that couldn't wait to be opened.

This is Lucas. Nicks 2 year old cat. He is also the one that tries to get out on a daily basis. We have to make sure the porch door is secure before we go anywhere. He is sleeping on Nick's Darth Vader blanket waiting for him to get home from school.

Here are SOME of our cats on Noah's bed. Every time I think I may get the opportunity to take them to the Humane Society, it never works out.

And now I present the "Smallest Jack-O-Lantern" award to Noah. This pumpkin was in the gourd bin at a farm outside of Montgomery. It was really so small that the tea candle barely fit inside. I took this without the flash on to emphasize the effect. Unfortunately, we had to toss it the next day, but here it is for posterity.

Trick or Treating

Well back from trick or treating. We were out for about an hour or so. There were not as many houses with lights on this year like last year. A sign of the times I suppose. The kids had fun and that's the main thing. The header of my blog this week includes the 5 pumpkins that the boys (aka Mom) did for them. All in all a pretty nice Halloween. Happy Halloween everyone.

This is a picture of our tree. Snow fell just a little TOO early this year already.
